Jacksonville Jaguars, Cecil Shorts begin extension talks
By Josh Sanchez
The Jacksonville Jaguars are not expecting to get Justin Blackmon back on their active roster anytime soon, and it is very likely that he will never play in a Jaguars uniform ever again. That became more obvious during the 2014 NFL Draft when the team selected Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson to add some depth at the position, and they are also looking to lock up one of the players currently on their roster for the long term.

According to Jaguars general manager David Caldwell, the Jaguars are beginning contract extension talks with wide receiver Cecil Shorts III.
“We’ve had some general discussions with his representation,” Caldwell said, via the Florida Times-Union. “Obviously, we want him here for the long haul. He’s a valuable part of our organization, and we’d love to, at some point in time, take care of Cecil.”
Last season, Shorts led the team in catches and receiving by hauling in 66 passes for 777 yards. He added three touchdowns.
With Blackmon out and two rookies joining the mix, Shorts will be the most seasoned player on the team’s receiving unit and his understanding of the offense could lead to more targets from whoever wins the starting job.
