New York Jets defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson is coming off a big season, and while he’d like a new contract the team isn’t in necessarily a rush to give him one. That is because he is under contract for another two seasons for a reasonable $7.2 million, you could expect them to begin working on an extension next offseason before the final year of his contract though.

Wilkerson seems to be content waiting to see how the situation plays out though and says he won’t press for a new deal.

“I would like a deal, but when it happens, it happens,” Wilkerson said, via ESPN. “I’m not saying I want it to be before the regular season. When it happens, it happens. I’m going to come in and work hard and take every day like I always do.”
