The New York Knicks were apparently supposed to have Steve Kerr hired as their next head coach by now but so far that hasn’t happened and now they may lose him to the Golden State Warriors. But while Kerr is being pursued by the Warriors, the Knicks are making moves to ensure he comes to New York instead.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski from Yahoo! Sports, the Knicks have sweetened their deal to Steve Kerr to include a fourth year on his contract.
It’s a smart move by New York, even if it’s a minor show of desperation on their part. Still, no matter how it looks, if the Knicks can land Kerr as their head coach, everything will be worth it in the end. Kerr might not be a future legendary coach, but if the Knicks lose out on their first major pursuit of the Phil Jackson era, the long term ramifications of not hiring Kerr might be worse than if he doesn’t work out if they do.
