Cowboys’ Dez Bryant: ‘I am in the best shape that I’ve ever been’
By Mike Dyce
The Dallas Cowboys have a new offensive coordinator in Scott Linehan, their third in as many years. Linehan has maintained that he doesn’t want to change the offense too much and wants to keep things consistent to ease the transition on the players, but added that he’d like to go deep and the Cowboys have the weapons to do so.
“One of the most intriguing things for me coming here was we got some great weapons on offense,” Linehan said, via the Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News. “Obviously we’ve built a heck of an offensive line. Tony’s a proven player that I’ve always been a big fan of throughout his career. We’ve got a pretty decent receiver [Dez Bryant] and a pretty decent tight end [Jason Witten]. Those guys are pretty good.”
In going deep, the Cowboys will look to utilize Pro Bowl receiver Dez Bryant, and according to statements Dez made recently he is in the best shape of his career.
“I am in the best shape that I’ve ever been,” Bryant said Tuesday, according to ESPN.com.
“Trust me, I’ve been working hard,” Bryant added. “I’ve been working six days out of the week. Today is my off day, but I’m going to the facility right now. That’s all I’ve been doing. This year is special.”
Bryant is wise to be coming into the season looking to have a big year. His contract is up after the 2014 season and he’ll be a free agent, unless the Cowboys can agree to a long-term deal with Bryant before hand or slap him with the franchise tag.
Considering Bryant’s hot start to his career that could be huge for the Cowboys. Bryant is on record saying he thinks he can contend for 2,000 yards in a season, a feat no receiver has ever accomplished. In his last two seasons he has 2,615 yards receiving and 25 touchdowns, establishing himself as one of the best recievers in the league. Coming into the 2014 season in the best shape of his life will be exciting for Cowboys fans and fantasy football players.
