It was only a day ago where Ubisoft announced that Watch Dogs went gold. Now one day later, the game is setting records.

According to the Ubi Blog, Watch Dogs is the most pre-ordered new IP in the company’s history (and the second-most pre-ordered Ubisoft game, ever), including the most pre-ordered new IP in the entire industry this year.

“These strong pre-orders are a clear indication of players’ anticipation and excitement for Watch Dogs,” said Tony Key, Senior VP Sales and Marketing at Ubisoft. “The teams have worked tirelessly to ensure that players will enjoy a top quality game with enormous scope, and we can’t wait to get the game into their hands.”

“There is massive buzz in all of our stores around Watch Dogs,” said Bob Puzon, Senior Vice President of Merchandising at GameStop. “Based on the current level of customer pre-orders we have received, Watch Dogs is the highest pre-ordered next-gen title to date and most pre-ordered new IP of the year.”

Ubisoft had a company earning’s conference call today, and executives believe Watch Dogs will sell more than the first Assassin’s Creed title, which means it should exceed 6.3 million in lifetime sales, per GI International.

“We expect it to become a major heavyweight of the industry,” said CEO Yves Guillemot.

This is great news for Ubisoft that a brand new IP is already setting records and it bodes well for future titles in the series.

Watch Dogs will be an impressive game once it releases on May 27 for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
