Thursday night the New York Yankees will finish up their Subway Series with the New York Mets, and as has been customary so far throughout this young season, the rivals from within the Big Apple gave Derek Jeter a parting gift as he embarks on the rest of his final season in the Major Leagues.

As a sign of their subway rivalry, the Mets handed Jeter a piece of art made from subway tile, a cake that was subway-themed and they also generously donated $22,222.22 to his charity.

While it might seem small and kind of meaningless to those outside of the New York rivalry, there has been some history behind Jeter’s time with the Yankees and his experiences with the Mets. Aside from the yearly battles since interleague play began, who could forget the 2000 World Series, which Jeter and the Yankees ended up winning in five games.

All of the teams that Jeter visits this year will give his these parting gifts as he ends one of the more historical, and successful careers in the history of the game, but some just mean more than others, such is the case with him seeing the Mets on the road for the last time.
