In the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft last weekend, the Kansas City Chiefs went the route of versatility with their selection of former Oregon Ducks standout De’Anthony Thomas. On Friday, the team announced that they have agreed on a four-year deal with their new weapon.

"The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Friday that the club has signed running back/specialist De’Anthony Thomas. Thomas was the team’s fourth-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft (124th overall). He became the fourth of Kansas City’s six selections in the draft to sign with the club."

Thomas played in 37 games throughout his three-year career in Eugene, and in that time he was one of the most explosive players in the country with the ball in his hands. As a running back, he compiled 1,961 yards on the ground with 26 touchdowns, and as a receiver he amassed 1,296 yards and scored 15 touchdowns.

But if there was anything that made Thomas stand out, it was his ability to spark anything at any time on the special teams side. In all the last three years, Thomas took a total of five kicks back to the house, four kickoffs and one punt with a total of over 2,000 yards.

As for his prospects with the Chiefs, although they named him as a running back in the release, he could see a switch to slot receiver in the near future; or if the team really wants to experiment and help prolong his career, he was also a talented defensive back in high school as well, meaning a switch to slot corner could also be in the cards.
