Jets first-round draft pick Calvin Pryor: ‘I’m still going to talk trash’
By Jack Crosby
Despite the rumblings leading up to the event that the New York Jets might select a quarterback or tight end in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft, the team instead went out and got Rex Ryan a new shiny toy to play with on defense in the form of Louisville’s hard-hitting safety, Calvin Pryor.
Even for those that wanted the Jets to select a skilled position player, the move to select Pryor made a ton if sense, especially given Ryan’s love of defense and how well Pryor’s game translates to his scheme.
What also makes Pryor a good fit with Ryan is the fact that he likes to talk trash, a lot, just like any successful defensive back the game has ever seen.
And according to Pryor, despite this being his first year in the league, that trash talking won”t be stopping.
“With me being a rookie, that doesn’t mean anything,” Pryor told the Star-Ledger. “I am who I am. I’m going to talk trash. I’m going to be myself. People who don’t like it are just going to have to get used to it.”
If you couldn’t see before just how well this marriage can work, now you have a better idea. Ryan himself even believes that it won’t take long until Jets fans fall in love with their new defensive star.
“There’s going to be a lot of jerseys sold with Pryor’s name on the back, because I have a funny feeling he’s going to become one of the more popular Jets as this thing gets going,” Ryan said.
