Yankees’ Alfonso Soriano understands Cubs’ Jeff Samardzija

Chicago Cubs right-handed starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija is on pace to become one of the first win-less All-Stars in the rotation.

It’s a little upsetting once you realize that Edwin Jackson has three wins and Jeff Samardzija is currently looking for his first. So far this season, Samardzija has posted a solid 1.45 ERA in 56 innings of work in his first eight starts. Former teammate Matt Garza (currently with the Milwaukee Brewers) told Jeff via the media to pitch his way out of Chicago.

Now former teammate and current New York Yankee, Alfonso Soriano, will be in town for a two game series. The Cubs were swept in the Bronx in their first two meetings so the Cubs are hoping to return the favor. With Soriano returning to the Friendly Confines for the first time since he was traded last July, he spoke out on his former Ace’s situation to the New York Daily News:

"“I don’t know, it’s 50-50. Maybe he can be in my position, too. If they put a good team to win, he stays. But if not, he wants to win, so he wants to leave. It depends on (the Cubs). If he leaves, it’s because the team they have is not competitive to St. Louis, Cincinnati, all those teams. In that division it’s very hard because every team in that division is good.”"

Alfonso Soriano will more than likely receive a standing ovation whenever he comes up to take his at-bat for the New York Yankees.
