We don’t yet know what kind of receiver Mike Evans will be in the NFL, but we do know this: whether he’s good or not, he won’t be a lot of fun for the media to cover. Because Mike Evans has no discernible personality and is totally not interested in doing media.

Evans gave us a glimpse of the complete tool he is sure to be throughout his career during this incredibly awkward interview with Jim Rome.

Clearly, Mike Evans wants nothing to do with performing these media chores. He would rather be, I don’t know, chilling at the crib I guess. Playing video games. Throwing back a few brews.

That’s fine, except when you’re a big time first round draft pick in the NFL, the media are going to come calling. You are going to have to do the media stuff. You don’t get to sleepwalk through it like the living dead.

Jim Rome should be a fairly easy appearance for any young player, even one who maybe doesn’t have a lot of experience in one-on-one interview situations. Rome isn’t out to get you most of the time. He’s just looking to have some fun.

That was a puffball interview, and Evans totally flopped. Rome had to crush him afterward with help from his listeners, who compared him to everyone from Ken Griffey Jr. to Tim Duncan.

You happy Evans? Now you’re in the bad interview Hall of Fame. And you haven’t even played a down in the NFL yet.
