The Twins’ Kurt Suzuki pulled off the rarest of feats Tuesday, turning what should have been a routine double into an inside-the-park home run.

I would like to make this all about Suzuki and his athletic prowess but honesty compels me to report, that inside-the-park job was on Seth Smith.

Smith commits the cardinal sin here by playing umpire instead of just continuing with the play. After he goes up to rob the home run and fails, he assumes it’s going to be called out of the park and just lets the ball roll away.

Meanwhile, Suzuki is running around the bases. Suzuki is showing the correct amount of awareness and hustle while Smith is showing none of either.

Smith is out there being Puig while Suzuki is churning. The shot of Bud Black glaring from the dugout…I don’t think he’s mad at the umps, I think he’s mad at Smith.

He wants to take Smith by the neck and teach him a lesson in not playing umpire.

Not taking anything away from Suzuki, cause it was a great effort by him, but that was a really poor effort by Smith. Really really poor.
