The New York Yankees needed a shot of good news. With a week seemingly full of bad news and a tough walk-off loss on Friday night, the team probably felt like they were due for a happy outcome.
Outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury came through to deliver just what the Yankees needed. In the 10th inning he blasted a go-ahead home run that held up and led the team to a 4-3 victory.

That was not the only key contribution from Ellsbury, who was forced to bat third in a lean looking lineup for the Yankees. He also keyed a game-tying three run rally in the ninth inning that gave the team a chance to play extra innings in the first place.
Fighting off some pesky injuries, Ellsbury has had a stop and start 2014 campaign so far. Through 46 games he is batting .263/.332/.389. With Carlos Beltran dealing with a bone spur in his elbow and Brian McCann struggling mightily thus far (.222/.270/.379), a lot of pressure is going to fall on Ellsbury to be the high-profile acquisition who can carry the day in the coming weeks.
