It had appeared as though the Minnesota Timberwolves had found their head coach and were preparing to bring him on to succeed Rick Adelman on the bench.

But in the 11th hour, Dave Joerger has reportedly rejected the Wolves offer t become their next head coach and will instead return to Memphis where he’ll coach the Grizzlies in the 2014-15 season.

Needless to say, the news was rather shocking.

Ramona Shelburne noted that the Timberwolves and Joerger’s relationship that the media had reporting as building behind the scenes was actually little more desperate than we all thought. Where it seemed the Wolves a Joerger were coming together, things played more or less with the Wolves begging Joerger to become their coach.

Instead, he’ll return to Memphis to coach a team he got to the playoffs this year and nearly to to the Conference Semifinals. As for the Wolves, they’l have to continue their so far fruitless search to fill the one job in the NBA it seems no one wants a part of.
