Seattle Seahawks won’t keep Jeff Ireland
By Cory Buck
Jeff Ireland’s short tenure with the Seattle Seahawks has come to end, according to the Seattle Times. Ireland had been brought onto the Seattle management team through the 2014 NFL Draft, leading some to speculate as to whether or not he would be a permanent fixture in Seattle’s front office. The team quickly squashed such concepts today as they will not be bringing Ireland back in any capacity.

The original hiring of Jeff Ireland was a move made specifically for the draft given that Ireland made his name in the NFL as a scout. He was a national scout for the Dallas Cowboys before being hired in 2008 by the Miami Dolphins as their GM. He had been the Miami GM until this past offseason when he was fired amid an 8-8 season filled with controversy. The Richie Incognito and Jonathan Martin saga pretty much unraveled any chance Ireland had of returning to the team after his role in the mess was described as, at best, not being very helpful.
Now, Ireland is free to pursue bigger roles in other front offices. The Seahawks were happy to have an extra eye in the stressful evaluation period, but now that the draft is over, the front office can turn to doing what they do best: uncovering diamonds in the rough and complementing their stacked lineup in anticipation of a Super Bowl defense.
