JC Penney trolls Clippers purchase on Twitter

Everyone who is anyone had something to say on Twitterwhen the Los Angeles Times reveled former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer landed the winning bid for the Los Angeles Clippers for the small price of $2.1 billion. That everyone includes American department store chain JC Penney.

Companies namedropping what’s popular has become a popular event on Twitter, allowing them to combine humor with publicity and speaking on an event such as this did just that.

The Clippers sale is monumental. Not only does it remove Donald Sterling from having any input in the NBA, it sets the precedent for all sports sales that come ahead of it. Early in January, Forbes valued the Los Angeles Clippers right under $600 million. Five months later the organization is selling for more than 200% of its initial worth. The $2.1 billion spent on the Clippers will be the highest sale price for an NBA team in league history along with the second highest sale price in sports history right behind last years $2.1 billion purchase of the Los Angeles Dodgers that was headlined by former Los Angeles Lakers point guard and five-time NBA champion Magic Johnson.

In regards to JC Penney’s troll tweet, I’m sure no one wants to purchase a bundle of clippers from the company. And if anyone was wondering, you could by 100 million clippers from Payless for the same price Steve Ballmer shelled out for the Los Angeles Clippers.
