Just a few days after reports leaked suggesting that Ha-Ha Clinton-Dix could very well be the Green Bay Packers starting safety, now reports have leaked suggesting otherwise.

More from Green Bay Packers

It’s not completely out of the realm that Clinton-Dix could be named the starter, especially given his talent and the impression he has made upon the Packers coaching staff. But ESPN’s Rob Demovsky suggests it shouldn’t be overlooked that Clinton-Dix could be regulated behind Micah Hyde, when asked if Hyde could keep the starting job.

"That should not be completely discounted. We know the coaches like Micah Hyde and want him on the field as much as possible. Perhaps Hyde could play safety in the base defense and then move up to the slot in the nickel and/or defenses, which would allow Ha Ha Clinton-Dix to get on the field in those packages."

In the case of the Packers coaching staff, it’s having too much of a good thing.

Hyde, who was given first team reps during recent OTA’s seems to be the early favorite, though, that could simply be due to his veteran status. It’s going to be difficult for him to hold off Clinton-Dix, even if he beats him for the spot out of training camp.

Still, between the two, Green Bay will have a very solid secondary that’s only going to get better as it grows.
