San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been one of the more exciting and successful stars that the NFL has seen in quite some time. On Wednesday, he was rewarded for his efforts by the team when he accepted a six-year contract extension worth $126 million, with an amazing $61 million of that guaranteed.

Of course, aside from his ability to make magic happen on the gridiron, Kaepernick has captivated the sporting universe with his unique personality as well, and he put that on display again Wednesday by signing that lucrative contract with a quill pen, as if he was signing the Declaration of Independence.
You do have to admire the young man’s personality, in addition to what he can do on the field.
But now the pressure is on to finally grasp what he hasn’t been able to the past few seasons, and that’s the Super Bowl trophy. In his almost two years as a starter since taking over for Alex Smith, he’s been to the big game once, and to the NFC Championship Game last year where he came up just short of a return trip to the Super Bowl.
However, pressure doesn’t seem to be something that eats at Kaepernick, so it really wouldn’t surprise anyone to see him not only get back to the promised land in the next few years under his new deal, but to win the whole thing.
And, let’s also hope that he brings the quill pen along to sign the autographs.
