The CMT Awards take place Wednesday night, and new Jets receiver Eric Decker will be there with wife Jessie James, who happens to be a country music performer of some note.

More from New York Jets

Don’t worry about this causing friction with the Jets. Rex Ryan said the team gave Decker their blessing to skip OTAs and be with his significant other at the awards ceremony in Nashville.

Rex Ryan understands that sometimes you have to put the little lady ahead of your business obligations (Rex is nothing if not a romantic). And anyway, they’re voluntary OTAs. I mean, we know they’re not really voluntary cause coaches get mad if you skip them, but technically they are still voluntary.

I’m sure Eric would love to be with his teammates learning Marty Mornhinweg’s offense and helping Geno Smith and all that, but you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do. And anyway it’s not such a bad way to spend your time, hanging out in Nashville with your gorgeous wife, surrounded by other gorgeous people (including Taylor Swift who will probably win every award).

I mean, if you can stand the overwhelming redneck factor that is.

And the music. A lot of that music is not so great. Eric probably likes it though, because he’s going out with a country singer.

He better like it, otherwise there could be a problem.
