Once Kevin Love was photographed hanging out in Boston, the Love-to-Boston rumors kicked into high gear, especially when seen with Celtics starting point guard Rajon Rondo, but according to Jackie MacMullan of ESPN.com, Love to Boston is a pipe dream unless Rajon Rondo is secured under a deal past next season.

This method would be smart on Love’s behalf. Danny Ainge has teetered back and forth with Rajon Rondo over the last few years. At times it seems like Rondo will finish his career as a Celtic and there are times where Rondo could be on the first flight out of town after being traded as Ainge has kept the point guard on the trade block for the last few seasons.

A Love-Rondo combination would be enough to land to Boston Celtics into the Eastern Conference playoffs for years to come, but there’s still the off chance that Rondo could bolt town due to his contract being up in the summer of 2015 where Rondo will surely draw interests from multiple teams. That would leave Love in a situation similar to what he is enduring in Minnesota: leading a cast of misfits and attempting to lead them toward a championship.

With Rondo locked up for the next four or five seasons, that would signal where the Celtics are headed for the next seasons and if Love chooses the join Rondo in Bean Town, the opportunity is there.
