We’ve already heard noise suggesting that the New York Knicks, void of any picks in the upcoming 2014 NBA Draft were attempting to trade for a selection, however it was believed they were looking for a second round pick.

More from NBA Draft

That could still be the case, but according to Moke Hamilton of Basketball Insiders, the Knicks are now ‘desperately’ attempting to acquire a first round pick.

“Hearing from multiple fronts that #Knicks are desperately trying to acquire a first round pick. Agents and prospects are being told, too.”

It’s a smart move from the Knicks considering so many teams, especially in the late lotto, seem willing to part with their selection. Of course, the problem for New York is going to be finding a team willing to trade such a pick with the Knicks lack of assets.

New York certainly doesn’t have anything that can nab them a lottery pick, so they’re likely looking at the mid teen’s as a best case scenario.

A more likely scenario would be the Knicks possibly falling into the 20’s though as most teams in that range are more than open to moving a pick considering they’re usually near the salary ceiling and first round picks come attached with a guaranteed contract.

We’ve already heard that the Phoenix Suns, who own four picks overall in the 2014 NBA Draft, are looking to move their No. 27 pick for a future pick, so that’s the type of scenario the Knicks are likely looking for an opposed to moving higher up which seems like a pipe dream.
