Philip Rivers has become known for his bolo ties, but recently the Chargers quarterback was seen making an entirely different kind of fashion statement, one involving mullet wigs and terrible shorts. A fan snapped images of Rivers in this outfit – or disguise if you want to be shady about it – while playing softball with Chargers teammates Danny Woodhead and Eric Weddle.

Why would Philip Rivers give up the studly bolo tie look in favor of an outfit even Kenny Powers might consider tacky? I think Rivers might just be a little weird. Yeah. I think that was established awhile ago. Rivers has some quirkiness to him.

What I like about Rivers is that he doesn’t shove his quirkiness in our face. He’s not like Brian Wilson quirky, where it’s all just a bit much. His quirkiness is a tad understated. It manifests itself in more subtle ways. He’s not going to grow a beard thick enough for woodland animals to nest inside it. He’s not going to sport a mohawk or get tatted down.

Rivers, his weirdness sneaks up on you. Just when you think everything is okay, he puts on a mullet wig and some bad shorts and plays softball. Very interesting.
