The votes are in, and the final tally shows that fans wanted to see Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman on the cover of EA Sports Madden 15 video game.

More from NFL

Sherman and fellow finalist Cam Newton were on hand with ESPN’s Michelle Beadle and a huge crowd of fans for the big cover reveal, which has become an annual media event.

Newton came on stage dressed to the nines, looking as dapper as can be and shouting in unison with his followers. Sherman, donned in a Seahawks t-shirt and a black blazer, was uncharacteristically low-key for the event.

The Madden cover vote began with 16 players, and went over 10 weeks, with over 10 million votes being cast by fans for their favorite players. Sherman won the final vote over Newton by a margin of 56% to 44% of the total votes.

This is just another part of a whirlwind season for Sherman who has been the hottest property in the NFL since his Seattle Seahawks completely obliterated the Denver Broncos in this year’s Super Bowl.

The real question is will the infamous “Madden Curse” befall Sherman and the Seahawks, as it is widely regarded that bad luck (or a bad season) will follow any current players who are picked to represent their team on the video game cover. Since 1999 when Garrison Hearst was the cover boy, things have been less than stellar for the player on the cover.
