There have been a lot of arguments throughout the years that the MLB Draft is just entirely way too long, causing some rather unnecessary, head-scratching occurrences to unfold. We saw one of those on Saturday when the San Diego Padres selected Johnny Manziel with the 837th overall pick in the event.

Now of course, there’s not a chance in the world that Manziel will see time on the diamond for the Padres –ever– seeing as he was just selected in the first round of the NFL Draft one month ago by the Cleveland Browns, but that doesn’t mean that Manziel didn’t want to at least send his gratitude the team’s way for thinking about him.

Actually, this is not the first time that Manziel and the Padres have crossed paths in some fashion as the former Heisman Trophy pitcher once threw out the first pitch for the team, and even joined the crew in the broadcast booth.

Now maybe Manziel could eventually join the Padres as a broadcaster one day as he seems pretty fit for the booth, but as far as on the field–well, way to go wasting a pick, Padres.
