  • Calgary isn’t just considering a move up a few spots in the draft, they’re going for the No. 1 pick and they seem to have the desire to do what it takes to land it.

Treliving told NHL.com that the Flames are indeed talking with the Panthers about swapping first-round picks with the Panthers and those talks are expected to get deeper as we near the draft.

"“Now is the time that all of those conversations are happening. We’re going to keep pounding away and try to get a sense of what other teams are thinking. For the most part, teams have gotten through their meetings. They’ve done their preparation for the draft. The talk between managers is increasing. We’ll see where it goes.”"

The Flames have the No. 4 overall pick in the draft and may have the assets to land the No. 1 pick if they try hard enough. But they’re not the only team interested in getting the top pick from Florida and may get outbid if they’re not careful. Still, the Flames want to No. 1 pick and they’re not about to let anyone budge in front of them when it comes to working out a deal with the Panthers.
