With the departure of DeSean Jackson this offseason to the rival Washington Redskins, the Philadelphia Eagles were in desperate need of taking one of the many talented wide receivers available in the NFL Draft. They did so in the second round with their selection of Vanderbilt’s Jordan Matthews.

Given the similar skill set, and despite what anyone in the media will tell you, Matthews is absolutely the replacement for Jackson. He can get open down the field and is terrific and getting off a good run after the catch.

But, can he one day take Jackson’s title of the best receiver on the Eagles?

Well, according to Philly.com Eagles writer Jimmy Kempski, he may already have.

Now of course, he did clarify by stating that the remaining veterans probably aren’t going full force in practices just yet this early on.

Still, even if that is the case, it’s an amazing sign for the Eagles that Matthews is turning heads like this already. The young man has a tough job ahead of him in replacing the production that Jackson brought to the table, but it seems he’s definitely on the right track.
