Fredi Gonzalez, Terry Francona among managers added to All-Star Game coaching staffs
By Dan Zinski
The coaching staffs have been announced for next month’s All-Star game, and there’s not much to get upset about. Unless you’re a Braves fan who thinks Fredi Gonzalez is the worst thing that has ever happened in the history of the world. In that case, you might be a tad miffed to learn that Gonzalez has been rewarded for his ineptitude by getting a spot on the NL coaching staff.

Manager Mike Matheny gave one of the two coveted manager coaching staff spots to Gonzalez, and the other to Pirates manager Clint Hurdle. The AL manager spots went to Ron Gardenhire of the host team Twins – it is of course a tradition to choose the manager from the host team – and Terry Francona of the Indians.
It just so happens that AL All-Star skipper John Farrell used to work for Francona, so it makes sense that he’d choose Francona. The rest of the coaching staffs will be filled out by Red Sox and Cardinals coaches.
The All-Star Game is set to go down July 15th from Target Field in Minneapolis. And yes, this one counts. Cause it determines home field in the World Series. Which is still one of the dumbest things in all of sports, but whatever.
