Yoenis Cespedes approached a pop fly a little too casually, allowing the ball to deflect off his glove. Howie Kenrick saw this and rounded third, heading for home. Cespedes seemed to realize the gravity of his mistake with the score tied 1-1 game in the ninth. He scampered to grab the ball and throws one of the most perfect bombs from the deep right field line to home plate.

More from Los Angeles Angels

Unfortunately, the Angels won in 14th inning 2-1, so Cespedes’ throw only extended what would finish as an excruciating game for the A’s. But that’s not the point. The point is that he gunned Kendrick out like a NFL quarterback throwing a last minute hail marry.

Check out Cespedes’ 8th outfield assist (most in MLB) of the season:

Cespedes didn’t have much success at the plate, hitting 1-for-6. Only Collin Cowgill exceeded three hits in the 14 inning contact. Seriously, did anyone actually stay for the whole thing? I’d be snoozing hard.

The A’s are still 2.5 games ahead of the Angels in the AL West they face off against the Angel again tonight to end the three game series. The Angel lead that series 2-0. The A’s have only put up two runs in both games combined, so they will need to reignite their offense if they hope to avoid another long winded loss.
