Bill Belichick’s trash could be Rex Ryan’s treasure. At least that’s what Ryan is hoping after picking up Patriots cast-offs Jermaine Cunningham and Ras-I Dowling, both of whom were once second round picks.

More from New England Patriots

And if Ryan cane make more of those players than Belichick did in New England? Does that make Rex Ryan more of a genius at identifying and nurturing talent than his much-more-successful hoodie-wearing counterpart?

Maybe not. But Ryan probably doesn’t care either way. He certainly doesn’t care how Cunningham and Dowling came to be discarded by the Patriots. Ryan talked about his feelings on the matter with the New York Daily News.

And took the opportunity to fire a little zinger at Belichick.

"I don’t believe the one guy up in New England’s got all the answers. I worry about ourselves, what we think of a player and how we evaluate a player. Do I respect the hell out of Bill? Absolutely. But if we think a player can help us, we don’t care how we get him."

Ryan continued:

"Sometimes what might not be good for you looks good for somebody else. You know what? Guys make mistakes."

Bill Belichick, not infallible. Rex Ryan, feeling a little chippy.

And something for all of us to keep in mind? It’s June. We’ll see how Jermaine Cunningham and Ras-I Dowling work out in New York. Could be Rex Ryan won’t be chirping quite so much come December.

Rex usually ends up on the wrong end of those Belichick showdowns.
