Cleveland Indians designated hitter Nick Swisher hit a solo home run, his fourth of the year, in the top of the 11th inning to beat the Boston Red Sox today.  Swisher led off the inning with the blast  off of Boston reliever Junichi Tazawa on a 2-1 pitch that stayed fair by Pesky’s Pole.

Cody Allen was perfect in the 10th and 11th innings while striking out three to pick up his third win of the season.

Cleveland starter Corey Kluber was solid today, giving up two runs in 5.2 innings pitched, but he did give up five hits and walked four.

Boston starter Brandon Workman fared marginally better.  He gave up two runs on five hits as well through six, but only walked two while striking out seven.

Michael Brantley got the scoring started for Cleveland with a two out solo home run in the first.  It was his 11th home run of the year.

David Ortiz singled in Brock Holt in the bottom of the first to tie the game back up at 1-1.

Dustin Pedroia brought in the second run for the Sox with an RBI groundout in the fifth.

Yan Gomes hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh to tie the game off of Burke Badenhop.  Workman pitched to the first two batters of the inning, but was lifted when both of them reached base.

The Indians rode 5.2 innings of one hit relief to finish the game with a win. Though RHP John Axford did manage to walk the bases loaded in the ninth inning before Scott Atchison came in and got Brock Holt to ground out to end the threat.

Cleveland opens up a series at home against the Angels tomorrow, while the Red Sox welcome the Twins to Fenway.
