When rumors broke suggesting that Carmelo Anthony could join forces with LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh as a member of the Miami Heat, basketball fans as a collective unit could hardly keep their stomachs from flipping.

More from Miami Heat

Making such a move a reality would be rather difficult as the Heat would need James, Wade and Bosh to all opt-out of their contracts and re-sign at a discount while Anthony himself would also need to take a pay reduction. Of course, nobody ever thought that James, Wade and Bosh would form the ‘Big 3’ either, so stranger things have happened.

Still, there are plenty who believe Anthony to the Heat is nothing more than a pipe dream. That list of people apparently includes Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders who does not believe the Heat will have enough money for Anthony.

“Possibility Carmelo ends up in Miami to form a big 4? —> Doubt they clear out enough cash for him.”

After the Heat were dismantled by the San Antonio Spurs, it’s not a foregone conclusion that James even returns to South Beach, let alone has Anthony join him.

Of course, on the flip side, Stephen A. Smith of ESPN recently suggested that if the Heat were able to make the finances work, Anthony would love to play with James and the Miami Heat so it doesn’t appear that we have a definitive answer either way regarding Carmelo’s future NBA home.

Complicating all matters is that Anthony has yet to even opt-out of his current contract with the New York Knicks, though, many expect such a move to be coming in the next few days.
