The New York Jets are stocking up on former New England Patriots draft picks.

As of now, the Jets squad includes outside linebacker Jermaine Cunningham and cornerback Ras-I Dowling. Both were second round selections for the Patriots. Both were perceived as bust. Both had injury issues. Cunningham missed games after a suspension for PED use.

Dowling and Cunningham are shinning at Jets camp.

Rex Ryan loves a good opportunity to say I told you so.

“I don’t believe the one guy up in New England’s got all the answers,” Ryan told the New York Daily News. “I worry about ourselves, what we think of a player and how we evaluate a player. Do I respect the hell out of Bill? Absolutely. But if we think a player can help us, we don’t care how we get him.”

The Patriots signed Danny Woodhead fresh off a Jets’ release long ago. Rex Ryan was just getting settled in New York. Woodhead went on to have a very successful three years with the Patriots. So much so, they couldn’t afford his asking price and he has since played for the Chargers.

The Jets hope to have the same surprising success with one or both of these young players. And if they can overcome their injury-littered playing career, both players have the talent to enjoy a Woodhead-esk rebirth in New York.

It will be interesting to see Rex Ryan can use the players in ways different from Bill Belichick and keep them on the field.
