With an opt-out clause in his current contract with the Memphis Grizzlies, Zach Randolph has the potential to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

However, even if Randolph forgoes the $16.9 million guaranteed to him for the 2014-15 season and enters the free agent pool, don’t expect him to be in anything but a Grizzlies uniform next season, based on recent comments from Memphis GM Chris Wallace.

From The Commercial Appeal:

"“We’re very excited about what Zach’s done in the past and hope to have him here in the future. This has really been a terrific boon for both sides. He’s obviously meant a great deal to us on and off the court. And Memphis has worked for him. This has been, by far, the best stop for him since he’s been in the NBA. So we’re working towards that goal.”"

There’s simply no logical reason for these two parties to go their separate ways.

Randolph has made it clear in the past that he loves Memphis and is willing to take a pay cut in order to remain in the place where’s he enjoyed the most success of his NBA career.

From the Grizzlies standpoint, they are trying to win now. And even at 33, Randolph remains one of the best big men in the NBA.  He averaged an impressive 17.4 points and 10.1 rebounds per game throughout the 2013-14 season. Furthermore, the power forward’s physical game completely fits in with the Grizzlies’ “Grit and Grind” style of basketball.

While this is time for crazy NBA rumors, we’ll likely hear very few about Randolph. He’s staying put.
