The Boston Celtics are looking at this draft class with a lot of hope as the team owns two picks inside of the top 20 with one of those being the No. 6 overall pick in the lottery.

Needless to say, the Celtics have options with their two picks, but we may see them do something surprising with the No. 6 overall pick, despite the fact that there will be plenty of great small forward scorers available at No. 17 overall.

According to Mark Murphy of The Boston Herald, there’s a possibility that the Boston Celtics could take Doug McDermott with the No. 6 overall pick in the draft. Admittedly, it’s a reach but it’s a possibility given how much the Celtics wants a scoring small forward.

"McBuckets may be the most balanced offensive player in this draft, and as the league continues to stretch the floor beyond all recognition, he’s the perfect candidate to spot up for someone. As much as the Celtics like him, and though former Celtic Wally Szczerbiak has tabbed McDermott as the player the C’s should take, the sixth pick is something of a stretch for him."

There are serious questions about McDermott’s defensive ability but his scoring is really something that can help cancel out those concerns, as his defense is something that can be worked on. The other question is who well will he convert to a small forward, as he’s technically a power forward entering the draft but is far better suited to be a small forward in the NBA.

Either way, the Celtics targeting McDermott at No. 6 overall is a stretch but it’s a possibility nonetheless.
