NBA Rumors: Indiana Pacers to pursue Rajon Rondo?

They are armed with two first round picks, the sixth-overall and 17th-overall selections, young talent like big men Jared Sullinger and Kelly Olynyk and future picks. They will make a run at the likes of Minnesota Timberwolves’ power forward Kevin Love and New York Knicks’ Carmelo Anthony, but if they are unable to land a star, they could part ways with point guard Rajon Rondo.

Chuck Myron believes the Indiana Pacers could make a run at Rondo.

"I think he’s most likely back in Indiana, though the Bulls reportedly see him as a fallback option. If the Pacers lose him, he’ll be mighty tough to replace, since Indiana will almost assuredly be capped out. We’re probably talking a mid-level guy there. I also wouldn’t be surprised if the Pacers tried to do something big, like trade for Rajon Rondo, if they miss out on Stephenson."

Although center Roy Hibbert took a bulk of the blame for the Pacers’ late season slide and loss to the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals, point guard George Hill did not perform at the level the Pacers needed him too and they could be looking for an upgrade at the position. Rondo would obviously do just that.

Of course, acquiring Rondo is a long-shot and the most likely move the Pacers make is to re-sign guard Lance Stephenson, who is set to his free agency.

Rondo was limited just 30 games while returning from his ACL injury and averaged 11.7 points, 9.8 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game. He shot 40.3% from the field, 28.9% from beyond the arc and 62.7% from the free throw line.
