It was 2010 when NBA superstar LeBron James took to ESPN for “The Decision”. The televised special served as LeBron James’ formal decision on where he would play next. In Cleveland, Ohio fans waited anxiously to find out if James would stay in his hometown or “take his talents” elsewhere. In the executive offices of the Cleveland Cavaliers, owner Dan Gilbert awaited a phone call from his mega-star.

More from Cleveland Cavaliers

The phone call never came and instead, Gilbert and the Cavaliers fan base learned of James’ decision live on TV with the rest of us.

Here we are in 2014 and James has officially opted out of his contract and will be a free agent once again on July 1st. With James taking his talent to anywhere but South Beach, NBA rumors are swirling as to where his next playing destination will be, and naturally, Cleveland is one of those spots.

There is no need to get into debate on how realistic the chances are that James would return home but instead it might be interesting to think about whether Cleveland Cavalier fans would want him back. The answer, according to a poll on Cleveland.com, is a resounding yes. Over 2,800 votes have been cast in favor of welcoming back the two-time NBA Champion compared to 780 votes from fans who haven’t yet forgiven him.

Since James has left Cleveland he has learned a lot about himself and about teamwork so it’s possible that the spoiled kid who left Cleveland could return a humbler man.

Or not, who’s to say?

I suppose the bigger question will be whether or not James and ESPN gather together to host “The Decision: Part 2” and if so, could Cleveland fans stomach another diss by James? We will have to wait and see, but it’s good to see that most of the Cleveland fan base are willing to forgive even if they can’s forget.
