TJ Ward will appear in court next month to face charges for misdemeanor assault, per the Denver Post. The Broncos safety was also charged for disturbing the peace after being accused of throwing a mug at a bartender at a strip club. His hearing is scheduled for July 22nd.

More from Denver Broncos

Ward, 27, allegedly threw a glass mug at a bartender who took away a bottle he’d brought in from outside the bar. He had been warned to take it outside or throw it away. Like just about any bar or restaurant, outside drinks were prohibited. Ward apparently ignored that advice and continued ordering non-alcoholic beverages in which he would pour liquid from his own bottle.

The article details what followed as such, “Surveillance video from inside the club showed Ward watching the bartender after she took away his glass and picking up a glass mug sitting on the bar, according to police records. Ward then allegedly threw the glass mug at the woman and walked away.”

That’s one way to show your dissatisfaction at the club. It seems that if you get a shiny new contract via free agency, you should be able to afford drinks at the club without having to smuggle in your own booze like some undergraduate student at a seedy college bar.

Unfortunately it’ll be a costly lesson for Ward, who was hoping to make a solid first impression on the team that plucked him from the Cleveland Browns via free agency this past offseason. The Denver Broncos now have to hope Ward doesn’t get himself suspended with these accusations.
