Joe Philbin is used to sticky situations, but the one he’s dealing with right now hits a lot closer to home than the stuff that’s gone on in the Miami Dolphins locker room under his watch. Per the Miami Herald, Philbin’s son Matthew has been accused of causing an accident and fleeing the scene after a March car crash that injured a woman.

A police report says that on March 23rd, Matthew Philbin, a soldier stationed at Fort Hood, crashed his Jeep into a car belonging to 22-year-old Kristen Robinson, who suffered arm, head and neck injuries as a result.

The report says Philbin was driving the wrong way down a one-way at the time of the crash, which may explain why he elected to flee the scene rather than stick around and deal with the situation.

Police say a bystander at the scene asked Philbin for his cell phone so they could call for help, but Philbin refused. Philbin then allegedly asked the victim and the bystander not to call the police on him. Philbin then hailed a cab and fled the scene, leaving behind his phone, wallet and military ID.

Cops checked the phone and discovered text messages in which a friend expressed concern that Philbin was driving while intoxicated. Philbin has been charged with failing to stop and render aid, a third-degree felony.

The Miami Dolphins have refused to comment, saying the situation is a personal matter.

So Joe Philbin is about as good at instilling proper values in his children as he is at getting his players to behave like disciplined professionals? Joe Philbin: giant turd. Cut that guy loose, Dolphins. Change the culture before it’s too late.
