It was so heartbreaking to learn this week that Baylor big man Isaiah Austin, after already overcoming so much during his basketball career in college which included blindness in one eye, would not be able to play the game of basketball again due to a genetic condition. With that news, his dreams of being drafted this week were dashed.

More from NBA

Well, not completely.

In one of the classiest moves that we have ever seen at any sporting event, by any commissioner, Adam Silver took to the podium and announced that he had a special issue to address.

He recognized that Isaiah Austin was indeed in the crowd tonight with his peers, and Austin was sporting an NBA hat with the Jerry West logo on it.

From that point, things got real emotional as Silver announced Austin as a legitimate draft pick, not to a specific team, but the entire NBA.

Watch it unfold in the video below, and get the tissues ready because it’s about to get pretty dusty.

Again, that was one of the best moments that we have ever witnessed, not just in the NBA Draft, but in sports in general. It’s moments like this that remind us why we cling to sports so much, and how much it can really touch you at times.
