Jose Calderon to recruit free agents for New York Knicks?
By Bryan Rose
When the New York Knicks obtained Jose Calderon in a trade from the Dallas Mavericks, they knew they’d be getting an efficient and solid point guard who should thrive in the triangle offense. What they didn’t know is that they apparently brought in an NBA ambassador as well.

Calderson, a well-traveled point guard with ties to many fellow NBA players says that he’d be willing to recruit players to join him in the Big Apple moving forward.
“This is my team,” said Calderon. “I’m going to help to improve it as much as I can. Anybody that we can get here or would be interested, I’d be willing to talk to, to try to make them come to the Knicks.”
While it’s an extremely nice sentiment, it’s questionable who Calderon would be able to recruit as his presence isn’t likely to sway most players. However, there is a small select group who could be swayed by Calderon to join the New York Knicks and that’s the Gasol brothers given their close friendship with the native Spainard.
The New York Knicks have already reportedly expressed interest in signing Pau Gasol this offseason as the free agent is extremely familiar with both Phil Jackson and the triangle offense from their days with the Los Angeles Lakers. Also, there have been rumblings suggesting that the Knicks have interest in signing Marc Gasol come next offseason, so Calderon’s precession could actually impact a couple free agent decisions.
For what it’s worth, Marc Gasol has stated a desire to remain with the Memphis Grizzlies previously but as we all know, money does talk.
