You may recall a few months ago we told you that there would be a minor league baseball team wearing Fresh Prince of Bel Air themed jerseys. Well, that day is today as the State College Spikes (St. Louis Cardinals affiliate) will rock the 90’s inspired threads against the Williamsport Crosscutters.

As if the fancy uniforms weren’t enough, in attendance will be actor Alfonso Ribeiro, best known for his role playing Carlton Banks on the hit NBC sitcom.
Of course, wearing themed uniforms is nothing new to minor league and independent league baseball teams as they often need to come up with unique and crafty ways to get fans into the ballpark. Some of the better uniforms we’ve seen this season include the Fresno Grizzlies (San Francisco Giants affiliate) wearing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles jerseys, the Durham Bulls (Tampa Bay Rays) rocking some Star Wars uniforms while the Toldeo Mud Huns (Detroit Tigers affiliate) wore some pretty awesome Ghostbuster’s threads.
There have also been some other unique uniforms in action like a college team wearing fan submitted selfies and an independent league team paying tribute to Michael Jackson by wearing jerseys that appeared to resemble his famed red jacket worn in the ‘Bad’ video. Still, hard to beat this….
I have to say, these are probably my favorite ‘gimmicks’ that the teams put out, possibly outside of the outrageous food combinations they unveil.
Nothing like seeing a bunch of grown men attempting to play a baseball game while wearing absurdly goofy looking clothing, especially those modeled after some of my favorite movies and characters from my youth.
