Washington Redskins wide receiver Andre Roberts had finally stepped out from behind the curtain. He was going to be the No. 2 receiver, and in his mind, probably had a shot at competing for the No. 1 spot.

Then the Redskins signed Desean Jackson.

More from NFL

At first, Roberts was no too excited about the signing.

"“Well, I envisioned one thing and then we signed DeSean Jackson,” Roberts said on ESPN 980′s “Inside the Locker Room” via ESPN back in May. “So I haven’t really thought too much.”"

Now, however, Roberts is singing a different tune.

"“It definitely helps matchup-wise,” the former Cardinal said, via CSN Washington. “I had the opportunity to play with Larry [Fitzgerald] and most of the time, he takes those No. 1 corners out of there and leaves you with one-on-one matchups with No. 2 or No. 3 [defensive backs]. So playing with Pierre and playing with DeSean, I’ll definitely have some nice matchups, inside and outside.”"

When asked, Roberts also said that you could argue the Redskins had the premier pass-catching group on paper. He’d be right. They do look awfully good on paper, especially with the implementation of Jay Gruden’s offense and the healthy knee of Robbert Griffin III.

This offense could be due for an absolute explosion come regular season time. If all goes as planned, Roberts could see a great deal of balls thrown his way, because, as he said, it’s all about match ups, and he may end up with the best one. So it’s good he’s changed his mindset, because he is in a great situation. We will see what he does with it.
