Dirk Nowitzki is looking to get paid big time by the Dallas Mavericks in his final contract of his legendary NBA career. While he may not be looking for a Kobe Bryant contract, he is certainly hoping for plenty of zeros before he signs on the dotted line.

Dirk will have to wait to discuss his new contract, however, until the team meets with free agent Carmelo Anthony on Wednesday:
Dirk Nowitzki update: Mavs, I'm told, operating under premise that finalizing Dirk's terms on new deal comes after Wednesday meeting w/Melo

Obviously Dirk would love to join forces with Melo for his last few seasons in the NBA as they would immediately become title contenders, but that would come at a price in his contract.
Apparently, that is no matter for Dirk, as he will be the centerpiece in recruiting Melo on Wednesday:
Mavs all in on pursuit of Carmelo Anthony and Dirk will be star face of Dallas' recruiting team Wednesday when its pitch follows Rockets

This is not to say that Dirk and the Mavs are far off from a new contract, as they have a ballpark estimate in place:
Don't forget Mavs and Dirk already have good idea of ballpark on deal given fact sides discussed extension last month before June 30 buzzer

Waiting to sign Dirk will allow the Mavericks flexibility in possibly signing Melo or other marquee free agents. At the end of the day, it seems Dirk wants to win for less money than lose while getting paid a lot.
