Happy NBA Free Agency, everyone! Now that we’ve officially begun the first day of 2014 free agency, there are tons of offers to be made and quality free agents to be signed. This summer will be one of the best free agency periods the NBA has seen in quite awhile, with dozens of superstars and quality role players hitting the open market.

But which free agents should your team be investing in?

To try and make some sense of it all, here’s a look at the top 10 free agents of 2014. This list is not just based on talent and achievements to this point, but also on potential for the future. For example, although Pau Gasol has had a fantastic NBA career, his better/healthier days are probably behind him, which is why he only makes the honorable mentions here. Inflated numbers on crappy teams were also a factor (sorry, Gordon Hayward).

Honorable Mentions: Luol Deng, Gordon Hayward, Pau Gasol, Isaiah Thomas, Marcin Gortat, Paul Pierce, Trevor Ariza, Channing Frye

  • Real M-Fing talk !!!

I ignored your list after i saw Wade was #8, that must be a joke, right?… tell me what serious team would sign Wade as a 1st, 2nd or 3rd option, i would rather sign your “honorable mentions” Deng, Ariza, Gortat, Thomas and Frye before i sign Wade

Wade’s value is at an all-time low, but you’re not going to tell me he’s not a top 10 free agent either, because that’s just foolish. He still averaged about 20 points on 50 percent shooting this year. His best years are behind him, but he’s still a better second or third option than any of those honorable mentions. Imagine a team like Phoenix and their wizard training staff getting a hold of him

      • Real M-Fing talk !!!

i said he was not a top 10 free agent because i believe it !…
and please do not jump to stats, stay away from them, use stats as a finishing move, the icing on the cake, because if you run directly to stats it seems like you do not know what you are talking about and i am sure thats not the case… i judge players based on what i see with my eyes not what’s on a stat sheet

i can look up stats myself, so trying to persuade me with stats does not work because they can be manipulated and we do not know how those stats we amassed and not everyone gain stats under the same circumstances… case in point…. Wade took close to 30 games off to rest, that has to factor in his numbers we all know Wade is shot defensively and any guard with spread blows pass him and when was the last time you saw Wade command a double team???… The spurs destroyed him in the playoffs because they played him one on one and gave him the jumper… so that automatically illuminated Wade from being factor offensively and we saw what he did defensively… and you think that guy is a top ten free agent?

Wade will get his numbers here and there but when the competition steps up i do not want Wade being my number 2 or 3 option…. history aside if the Heat had a chance to get Gortat and fill Wade’s spot with a cheaper option at guard would they pass???

How many Win NOW championship caliber teams would sign Wade at 12 million for their number 2 or 3 scoring opinion?… would the Clipps, Blazers, OKC, Spurs, Warriors… not even bottom feeders like the Washington Wizards or Cavs would sign any of their TOP 4 players OVER Wade and those are teams i just picked off the top of my head without looking at the rosters

What’s wrong with the Heat’s training staff? that Wade would need the Suns staff… in that statement you just admitted Wade is Shot, but you believe he is a top 10 free agent…and a 2nd or 3rd option… eventually Wade will be in the top 10 once the good players are OFF the market

I want to known why Wade getting 12 million over 4 years is sacrificing for the heat? because people in the media seem to believe it…. Wade is still getting 40 million over 4 years instead of 2 years… how many teams would pay Wade 40 over 4 years…. if Wade really wants the heat to be a win NOW championship team he would be getting that 40 million over 6 plus years…. if Wade was a 20 million a year player then yes he would be sacrificing for his team, right now he is not sacrificing crap and i would NOT be surprise if Lebron bolts… and you guys in the media will be all over him because he’s that low hanging fruit the media loves

Citing stats is not the same as “running” to stats, Wade also passed the eye test when he was on the court all the way up until the NBA Finals. The big story with him was actually how healthy he looked heading into the Finals. Wade missing 30 games DID factor into his ranking, it’s why he barely cracked the top 10. A win now championship team would love to have Wade. Not as a primary option of course, but he’s still an efficient scorer and do-it-all guy even if he’s not a great perimeter shooter.

Just because another team wouldn’t sign him for $12 million doesn’t mean the Heat are wrong for doing so. I never admitted Wade was shot, just that he’s not as spry as he once was. There’s also nothing wrong with Miami’s training staff, but the Suns training staff is known for being one of the best (if not THE best) in the league. Just look at how they helped extend the careers of Steve Nash and Grant Hill, for example.

Wade technically WAS a $20 million per year player under his contract. By opting out of that contract, he sacrificed $40 million over the next two years and will take a major pay cut. This has nothing to do with “us guys in the media” and our opinion on Wade, just facts on how much money he’s giving up and how much he can still contribute. You have every right to disagree, but writing off facts isn’t a good way to do so.

          • Real M-Fing talk !!!

You can speak in “technicality” all you want….
Last time i checked the Finals is where one’s mettle is tested not rolling through the east on the back of the best player in the game… if that was the case they would never play the finals…. in the Final the best players have to step up, Chalmers and others got a lot of blame BUT they weren’t making 20 million like Wade and Bosh , there’s a reason the Heat paid Wade that money… TO SHOW UP !!! not have good games leading up to the finals, To show up when his team needed him the most !…. AND How has Wade proven he will be better next year if the makes it back to the Finals? Wade missed 30 games because he can no longer play a full season and he was exposed !

if wade is not your primary scorer … then who is? Bosh?
You also want to ignore the fact that Wade was being overpaid, but it’s ok and still you refuse to Answer which championship win now team would want Wade as their 2nd or 3rd scoring option Wade would be an albatros around the necks of the WIZ and Cavs if they had to cut one of their top 3 players to sign Wade. there is a reason i believe Lebron demanded the max in the media, its was a way of forcing Wade and Bosh to take major paycuts and both are expected to still make double digits per year, which is not good enough to fill out the roster.. considering none of them led the heat in scoring, rebounding, assist or is the best defender on the team… its Lebron carrying these slugs and he will only makes 8 million more than Bosh and Wade if things goes as planned

          • http://hoopshabit.com Gerald Bourguet

You’re right, Dwyane Wade sucks. He should just retire.

          • Real M-Fing talk !!!

i know you’re being sarcastic but damn right he should if it means paying him 12 plus million each year going forward ! thats almost 1/4 of the available money the heat have to spend this year !!!
and not even you believe wade is worth that
