Jason Spezza has finally been granted his wish. The top center has been traded from the Ottawa Senators to the Dallas Stars for a package that includes Alex Chiasson, Alex Guptill, Nicholas Paul and 2nd in 2015.

More from Dallas Stars

Alex Chiasson had a scorching start to last season, scoring a goal in each of his first three games of the season and five total in the month October, but he followed that up with 8 goals in the rest of the season. Guptill and Paul meanwhile are third and fourth round picks respectively who offer added depth for the Ottawa organization.

This trade appears to be a classic ‘Dollar for three quarters’ trade in which the Dallas Stars handily won the lion’s share of value. Jason Spezza will combine with Jamie Benn to give Dallas one of the best 1-2 center tandems in the league. Add in stud youngsters Tyler Seguin and Valeri Nichushkin and you have the makings of a very potent top six in 2014-15.

The Senators meanwhile must once again retool their roster after the second straight summer in which they’ve seen their captain leave town. Last year, captain Daniel Alfredsson left Ottawa for the Detroit Red Wings and now Spezza leaves after yet another trade demand, per Garrioch, who remained unsurprised by the move.

Now it appears that Jason Spezza finally got his wish, and he’ll be suiting up in the Big D for a team that could very well qualify as a legitimate sleeper in the ultra-competitive Western Conference.
