The Chicago Bulls had their much publicized meeting with Carmelo Anthony, who is the No. 1 free agent target that teams actually have a chance at getting right now since LeBron James doesn’t want to meet with anyone. Carmelo was at the United Center on Tuesday and met with the most important members of the Bulls organization including injured point guard Derrick Rose.
We have no idea what was discussed by all indications seem to suggest that the meeting was positive but some of the information we are learning about the meeting is that it wasn’t all just a bunch of talking in order to convince Melo to sign in Chicago, there was actual work done.
According to Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders, Rose not only met with Melo on Tuesday but he even went through a private workout for him to prove that he the All-Star forward signs with the Bulls, Rose is will be healthy enough to return to the lineup.
While (Derrick) Rose had went on the record saying that he wasn’t going recruit (Carmelo) Anthony to Chicago, he was very involved in the team’s courtship of the superstar free agent, according to sources close to the situation. While at the United Center, sources say that Rose went through a private workout to show Anthony that he’s healthy and ready to compete at a high level next season.
Everyone seems concerned about the money and how the Bulls are going to fit Meo on the roster and not have to pay an outrageous amount of money that puts them into the luxury tax, but there’s a even more crucial factor in all this — Derric Rose’s health.
If Rose isn’t healthy, the Bulls drop hard in the Carmelo Anthony power rankings which is why a workout from his isn’t surprising. It’s doubly encouraging to Bulls fans as not only is it an excellent selling tool for Melo, but Derrick Rose working out is a win in of itself.
