The NBA is currently witing on the decision of Carmelo Anthony to decide what free agents will be targeted next and that decision doesn’t look like it will come down until next week at the earliest. Melo has met with the Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks already and is looking to meet with the Los Angeles Lakers before heading back home to have a final meeting with the New York Knicks.

According to Mar Berman from the New York Post, the gut feeling that Melo has is that he wants to come back to New York and play for the Knicks.

This is not what the Chicago Bulls or Houston Rockets want to hear, especially after both teams rolled out the red carpet to try and convince him to sign with them. Chicago busted out all the stops in their free agent visit with Melo and the Rockets met with Anthony for most of Wednesday before he took a short trip to Dallas.

The bottom line on Melo is that the Knicks are the front runners and they need to be beaten by either Chicago or New York. Don’t think of the Knicks are distant front runners as this Carmelo Anthony race will be more of a photo finish than a race that is over long before we can see the finish line.
