The Miami Heat are getting serious about the free agents they want to pursue and offer contracts to and Pat Riley will likely kick things into high gear this weekend as time starts to run out before LeBron James starts fielding offers from team.

More from Los Angeles Lakers

LeBron is already having his agent meet with teams, a tactic that is likely directed at the lethargic state of the Heat front office in the first 72 hours of free agency. Riley has received the message loud and clear though and it appears that the wheels are starting to turn faster and faster in South Beach.

According to Yahoo! Sports insider Adrian Wojnarowski, the Heat remain very serious about wanting to go after Pau Gasol and sign him this summer.

"Gasol remains a serious target of the Miami Heat, too, sources told Yahoo Sports. Miami president Pat Riley plans to meet with Gasol in Los Angeles this weekend."

Pat Riley meeting Gasol in Los Angeles wont’ be the first or only time this week that someone has approached with interest as just today the Chicago Bulls did the same exact thing and are also serious suitors for Gasol.

But unlike Chicago, the Heat are not interested in Carmelo Anthony and can approach Gasol with the offer of making him their first choice and not a backup plan like so many other teams have been telling him. The chips are waiting for a Melo decision before the fall, but Riley can position the Heat to catch most of what they want when they do indeed fall.

That’s what this meeting with Pau Gasol is for and Heat fans are hoping the serious interest leads to a serious contract with the Spanish big man.
