The Atlanta Hawks willed their way into the postseason this past year and they nearly pulled off the stunning upset of the No. 1 seeded Indiana Pacers. But while their run in 2013-14 was cute, they want to get serious about winning in the immediate future and are making a move on a top tier free agent.
Atlanta has been high on Luol Deng ever since he hit the open market and they had been eying him well before that. This is why it has come as absolutely no surprise that the team his coveting him in the first week of free agency and are now reportedly in advanced talks to sign him to a nice contract.
Told talks advancing between free-agent F Luol Deng (Cavs) and Hawks, though nothing final.

Deng isn’t going to sign anywhere until the chips fall with Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James. The Dallas Mavericks and Chicago Bulls have both showed an interest in signing Deng if they miss on Melo — which now looks likely to happen.
But Atlanta has always viewed Deng as a first option on the market and not a Plan B, which may go a long way in selling Deng on coming to Atlanta and trying to help them get over the hump this season.
