The Chicago Bulls are deep in the trenches when it comes to how badly they want Carmelo Anthony to sign with them or ask the Knicks for a sign-and-trade, but wanting and getting are two different things. Chicago may want Melo but there’s not a fat chance they’re going to get him.

This means that Chicago will be turning their attention to other possible moves, one of which includes a sign-and-trade with the Los Angeles Lakers for Pau Gasol.

According to Joel Brigham of Basketball Insiders, another thing the Bulls will do is return their focus to acquiring Kevin Love in a trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves but nothing Chicago has to offer can live up to how much Minnesota is hot and bothered for Klay Thompson.

"Any deal Chicago makes will likely center around Taj Gibson, Jimmy Butler, the rights to Mirotic and some draft picks, but knowing how much Minnesota values Klay Thompson, it’s hard to believe they’d settle for Chicago’s deal, especially as Flip Saunders continues to insist he’d like to hold off on a Love trade."

The Wolves want Thompson bad and they haven’t lost focus on trying to pry him away from Golden State. This is a classic love triangle as the Bulls want Love and have a lot of amazing assets to offer but the Wolves are completely infatuated with Klay Thompson despite the fact Golden State has the pepper spray out ready to fight off the Wolves’ advances.

Something will happen with these three teams but that outcome could be that they all return to their corners without anything new they didn’t leave with.
