The basketball world is transfixed on what Carmelo Anthony will do when it comes time for him to decide where he wants to play next. Right now it seems that three teams are in the running to land him with a fourth — the Houston Rockets — in and out of the conversation depending on who you talk to.

More from Los Angeles Lakers

If you’re talking to ESPN’s Marc Stein, then only two teams seem to be in the running to land Melo at this point in time. With a decision likely coming at some point today or tomorrow, Stein notes that it’s starting to look like just the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks are in the running to land Carmelo Anthony at this point.

That’s not an official report, so don’t take it that way, but it’s a good common sense approach to the way things look to be turning out. With the Bulls, Rockets and Mavs looking elsewhere for free agent hep, common sense logic indeed suggests that the Lakers and Knicks are the two teams in the running.

Of course, the Bulls looking elsewhere could be a power play tactic to try and entice Melo by playing hard to get, but that’s a risky strategy. Nevertheless, Melo’s decision is coming soon and it’s still anyone’s guess as to where he’ll end up.
